Welcome to Goldsmith Kung Fu, teaching practical self defense, kung fu and mixed martial arts on the East Coast. Headquartered in Chapel Hill, NC we are dedicated to teaching the martial art of Wun Hop Kuen Do Kung Fu, a style of the Kajukenbo system; America’s first mixed martial art. Wun Hop Kuen Do means “Combination Fist Art” in Cantonese, and it is a practical, street-based style of kung fu that focuses on developing each student into a complete martial artist that is able to express their personal creativity as a martial artist. It is often described as a “system without a system” and we believe that our training should always strive to be “practical, effective, and realistic.” If you are looking for an expansive, practical martial arts experience covering all ranges of fighting, from grappling to striking, to weapons, the art of Wun Hop Kuen Do offered at Goldsmith Kung fu is a perfect fit. Interested people of all skill levels, from beginners to black belts, are welcome to come and try out a free introductory class. As a “system without a system” our curriculum is highly adaptive and prior experience is viewed as an asset both for the student and for the class as a whole. We look forward to working with both people completely new to martial arts and those with black belts in other styles; it is our belief that everyone adds something unique and valuable to the class.
